Most California law firms do not need another vague AI pitch. They need a safe, practical place to see where AI may help, what should remain with people and whether a small test is worth continuing.
Our free Law Firm AI Toolkit gives a firm that starting point. It is designed for education and supervised testing—not for legal judgment, live client work or automatic communication.

What the free toolkit includes
- AI readiness scan: identify one repeatable administrative or marketing task that may be suitable for a supervised test.
- Sample intake workflow: see how a fictional inquiry can move from receipt to an internal review list without contacting anyone.
- Starter prompt pack: experiment with narrow instructions that preserve uncertainty and ask for review.
- Human-review guardrails: keep a named person responsible for every decision and external action.
Start with one supervised workflow
A useful first exercise is a fictional intake-routing review. Create a small test sheet with invented records: one missing an owner, one with an incomplete field, one possible duplicate and one inquiry outside the firm's stated practice areas. Write the expected result before running the test.
The AI task is narrow: organize the fictional records and flag what needs a person. It may identify a missing assignment or an empty field. Staff decide whether the flag is correct, who owns the next step and whether the process should change.
This tests the handoff instead of asking a model to imitate a lawyer. It also gives the firm something measurable: missed exceptions, false alarms, corrections required and staff review time.
Keep the first test away from client information
No client or matter information is needed for this toolkit. Do not paste confidential, privileged or identifying information into a test prompt. Fictional records are enough to learn whether the instructions, review status and handoff make sense.
If a firm later considers using real information, that is a separate decision for its responsible lawyers and technical owners. The toolkit does not approve a vendor, account, integration or data flow.
What the toolkit does not do
The toolkit does not provide legal advice. It does not decide case acceptance or conflicts, assess legal merits, calculate deadlines, contact a prospective client, change a matter record or replace attorney judgment. A draft is not permission to send, publish or rely on the output.
For firms evaluating public-facing content rather than intake, our California law firm content strategy page explains how useful pages, approved facts and clear review roles fit together.
How to get free access
Use the contact form and write AI Toolkit in your message. We will send the toolkit and offer an optional 15-minute AI fit call to help identify one sensible place to start. The call is not required for access.

Frequently asked questions
Is client or matter data required to use the toolkit?
No. The starter exercise uses fictional information so a firm can study the workflow without submitting client, matter, confidential or privileged information.
Does the toolkit automate legal decisions?
No. It does not decide case acceptance, conflicts, deadlines, legal merits or what should be sent to a prospective client. Those decisions remain with the firm's responsible people.
What will a California firm receive?
The free toolkit includes an AI readiness scan, a sample intake workflow, starter prompts with guardrails and a visible human-review checkpoint.
Is the 15-minute AI fit call required?
No. The call is optional and is not required to receive the toolkit.
Disclosure: This is an educational tool, not legal advice. Do not submit confidential or privileged information. No client deployment, attorney review, endorsement, regulatory compliance or software integration is claimed.
